Engaging investigative modalities and shamanic technologies
to identify, restore, and be strategic about power.
Intuition & Divination
Through conscious engagement with the breadth of consciousness that intersects with our personal psyches, intuition and divinatory tools help us sense beyond the present moment into past and future happenings, as well as the patterns woven by past and present persons toward the creation of what is revealed to be a malleable and alterable reality.
Popularized by Michael Harner, founder of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, shamanic journeying is a sound-induced trance state that enables the practitioner to effectively engage energies in the spiritworld at a level known to greatly bypass the ego and limit bias toward gaining an enhanced perspective of our lives and world(s).
Focusing & Clearing
Inner Relationship Focusing - developed by Ann Weiser Cornell - is a practice for tracking "felt sense" energies in the body and clearing them at their root. In visualization, Focusing helps us prioritize and as an energy healing method, it encourages us to "be with what is," inviting our triggers and blocks to open up and be heard.
Effective root doctoring begins with diagnosing the root cause of debilitating energetic conditions, followed by the skilled use of folk magic techniques toward resolving them. Similarly, it involves the enhancement of favorable conditions in alignment with goals and desires. The practitioner may engage allies in the botanical, mineral, and zoological worlds as well as prescribe prayers, candle rites, baths, gestures, or other acts for the person in their care.
My work in folk magic brings together elements from Southern Conjure (hoodoo rootwork), Catholic Latin American traditions, and Western Occultism gained through both apprenticeship and self-study.
The resilience and endurance of enslaved Africans whose labor was used to profit and build the infrastructure of the New World was backed by syncretic engagement with ancestral energies through initiatory rites, group festivals, the use of plant-based spiritual technologies, and identification of personal divinities whose presence in the lives of participants would continue to guide them toward blessings in their life's callings.
As an initiated asogwe priest in Haitian Vodou (Houngan Twòp Pou Tè) and as a quimbandeiro com licenca in Brazilian Quimbanda I am empowered to provide guidance and treatments within these traditions.
Contemporary Shamanism is unique to the industrialized Western world with traditions and personal practices varying in proximity to both living and reconstructed indigenous shamanic traditions. It aims to fill the gaps between the Old World and the New by ensuring right relationship between the living and the dead, human and non-human persons, and all aspects of the Self where such connection has been sullied or lost.
My shamanic healing practices are informed by my spirit-induced initiatory experiences, intimacy with my helping spirits, and the Cycle Teachings cosmology of the Last Mask Community.
